I have these notes visible in PS at all times:

“process:
1. construction - large, general accurate measurements of where objects are located. 

1.5 forms - clarify forms to prepare light and shadow

2. light and shadow shapes - block in the light and dark areas with line. 

3. values & VARIATION - put in a general dark tone and general light tone on their own layers. then use a gradient on both the lights and darks for variation.

3.5 local colors - use multiply/screen/dodge/burn layers to change the local values.

4. rendering
4.1 soften all shadow edges that are not contour or cast shadows. these edges are extremely important
4.2 darkest darks and lightest lights
4.3 refine to finish - only now can you alt click and blend. always check your new layer vs. where you came from. blend with flow at 1%.”

tonight/tomorrow I’ll have to apply this and see what other problems I run into. I think the next will be what to do with line art but I think I have some ideas
